5 out of 5 Stars!!

Cath is a Simon Snow fan.

Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan . . .

But for Cath, being a fan is her life — and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.

Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this?

Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories?

And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

Kelsie's review:

I'm going to leave all the intellectual stuff to Nadia on this one. Let me just begin with saying that this if the first book in I can't even remember that I HAD to finish reading. I stayed up until maybe 3am? It's all kind of blurry have 1am, but I am happily enjoying a book hangover right now. What can I say about this book? It's fantastic in the ways of Perks of Being a Wallflower and every Stephanie Perkins novel. My favorite thing in the world is character growth. I love it. I love seeing them become something more. Cath has a long road ahead of her in the beginning of the novel and she is dragging her feet when it comes to growing up. She is in full on Peter Pan mode, but she has to. The people who come into her life refuse to leave her behind.

I'm going to keep this short because I know Nadia has a lot to say about this one, but my absolute FAVORITE thing about this book is the situation with her mother. I LOVE that the author didn't cop-out with the whole forgiveness thing and then everything was ok. I sympathized with Cath so much on this one. It grabbed me and I found myself nodding along when she spoke about what happened and her feelings about it. I get you, Cath. I really freaking do. I saw so much of my Freshman in College self in Cath that it really made me nostalgic. Also, super quick and then I'm passing the buck, but can I just express my undying LOVE for all things Levi? Oh Lawd, what a male lead. Beautiful boy with a beautiful soul. You captured me Levi, ya big nerd! Gah. Ok. Go read this right now, my lovies. Goooooo noooooooooow! Actually wait and read Nadia's review and then gooooooo!

Nadia's review:

Rainbow Rowell has a talent that is gorgeous in its simplicity. She has this striking ability to arrow to the heart of the matter with a simple, beautiful turn of phrase. Case in point: “You give away nice like it doesn't cost you anything.”

Sentences like that...they undo me.

I guess one of the main reasons that I fell in love with this book is that Cath is so relatable.  We're all Cath in some shape or form. Whether it's using an author's world to escape your own, or social situations leave you feeling like you're playing a game of Minesweeper that you are always destined to fail, or made to feel weird over your overly intense reactions to things other people expect you to act blase about.

Also, her secondary characters are so well developed! At the end of the book you feel like you know each and every one of her characters. Even Simon and Baz.

Fangirl has this coming of age feel reminiscent of The Breakfast Club and all those other eighties movies. It's a book that will leave you coming back to it again and again.

Bono met his wife in high school, Park says.

So did Jerry Lee Lewis, Eleanor answers.

I’m not kidding, he says.

You should be, she says, we’re 16.

What about Romeo and Juliet?
Shallow, confused, then dead.
I love you, Park says.
Wherefore art thou, Eleanor answers.
I’m not kidding, he says.
You should be.

Set over the course of one school year in 1986, this is the story of two star-crossed misfits—smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try. When Eleanor meets Park, you’ll remember your own first love—and just how hard it pulled you under.

Kelsie's review:

Ok, wow. This was such a heart-breaking and painfully poignant story about first love. I loved it and hated it and so many feelssss. The ending though. I will be honest and say that I contemplated throwing my Kindle across my room in a fit of rage and then I calmed down. Then I thought about it and I realized that maybe the open ending was perfect for them, ya know? They are 16 yrs old and it's first love. It allows the reader to make up all kinds of scenarios for them.

I call it painful because good lord what wasn't painful about being a teenager? Everything we learned about ourselves was embarrassing and horrifying. Being a teenager is all about being uncomfortable in one's own skin and it translates so well in this book. It was cringe worthy, but in a nostalgic way hahaha! I promise this is a good thing. Sometimes life does suck, but sometimes there are moments that are filled with so much sunlight and sweetness that it makes up for it. That's what this book was like for me.

And the characters! Man alive, this chick writes such beautifully flawed characters. I love them and felt them in my bones. They are both so young and naive, still discovering things about themselves and it was wonderful. This book literally felt like a growing pain. Do I recommend this? Definitely. I am loooooving this author right now.

"Hi, I'm the guy who reads your e-mail, and also, I love you . . . "

Beth Fremont and Jennifer Scribner-Snyder know that somebody is monitoring their work e-mail. (Everybody in the newsroom knows. It's company policy.) But they can't quite bring themselves to take it seriously. They go on sending each other endless and endlessly hilarious e-mails, discussing every aspect of their personal lives.

Meanwhile, Lincoln O'Neill can't believe this is his job now- reading other people's e-mail. When he applied to be "internet security officer," he pictured himself building firewalls and crushing hackers- not writing up a report every time a sports reporter forwards a dirty joke.

When Lincoln comes across Beth's and Jennifer's messages, he knows he should turn them in. But he can't help being entertained-and captivated-by their stories.

By the time Lincoln realizes he's falling for Beth, it's way too late to introduce himself.

What would he say . . . ?

Kelsie's review:

This was too stinking cute. I loved it. The emails between Beth and Jennifer were HILARIOUS! They also discussed very emotional things and I can see why Lincoln fell for Beth. I loved his reactions to the emails when they would talk about him. So funny. Lincoln's struggle with growing up and not being under his mother's thumb is admirable. This book is just another reason to love contemporary romance, or at least how it used to be. It's funny, sweet, and romantic. Me gusta!!!

4 out of 5 stars!!

I killed a girl last night. I did it with my bare hands and an old piece of pipe I found lying next to the dumpster. But that’s not the part that got me. The part that scared me, the part I can’t seem to wrap my head around and still has me reeling, was that when she charged me, her body shifted – and then she was a wolf. All snapping teeth and extended claws. But by the time I stood over her lifeless body, she was a girl again. That’s about the time I went into shock… And that was the moment he showed up.

Now, all I can do is accept the truths that are staring me in the face. One, Werewolves do exist. And Two, I was born to kill them.

My review:

So when I first began reading paranormals I started with werewolf novels, they are near and dear to my heart. The first one I ever read was Blood and Chocolate and I got hooked. Over the years, they've been pretty hit or miss. Mostly miss. The action that is necessary in werewolf novels is usually passed over or the lore is completely forgotten. Not so with Dirty Blood. It literally takes off running and you get sucked in from the first page. I LOVED the twist with Tara's role in the werewolf society and her relationship with Wes. It's very action packed and the draaaammaaaaaa is awesome! I loved it, I loved the politics that divide the werewolf's and how all the characters in the book are not only finding out that the world in bigger than what they originally thought, but that they are so much more than what they thought of themselves. Especially Tara. I can already tell with just book one in this series that her character growth will be amazing to see. So I guess all that's left to say is go get it, it's FREE on Amazon and Barnes and Noble; it's the perfect time to curl up and get lost in something paranormal!

Halloween is all about the scary and things that go bump—so here’s a peek at what makes the characters from the Dirty Blood series FREAK OUT!

Tara Godfrey: “I’m pretty freaked out by my mom. She has this certain death-glare that knocks the wind out of me every time. Usually, when she starts cleaning with bleach, I know to make myself scarce because that look is coming. And she really saves it for the times when I’m already dreading her reaction. Like when I get expelled. Yeah, that happened. It’s sort of becoming a habit, actually.”

Wesley St. John: “My biggest fear is losing the people I love. And it being my fault. Maybe it’s because I lost my parents so young. I know that wasn’t my doing but … I don’t want to end up alone again.” (Awwww. Poor thing. Come here and let me snuggle you.)

Elizabeth Godfrey (Tara’s mom): “My mother.” *shudders*

Edie Godfrey (Tara’s grandma): “Nothing. Fear only exists if you let it. I either push it out or run it over with my Hummer.”

Cambria Hebert: “CHICKENS! Holy Hell, they are like little feathered demons. Creepy. And unnatural—unless they’re in a cardboard bucket and being handed to me in the drive-thru lane. Extra crispy. Otherwise, scary!”

Cord: “I used to fear being the weak one in a situation.” *shrugs* “So I changed that. Now, I’m strong enough that I don’t have to fear anyone.”

Derek: “I wouldn’t call it fear exactly, but metal makes me a little nervous…”
 What are you afraid of??

Going Nowhere excerpt #1

Going Nowhere is getting it's final edits done and heading into formatting and because I'm super excited I wanted to share a first look at it! Still in editing so any errors will be fixed! Thanks peeps!

Here's the synopsis (subject to change):

My name is Marisol Claire Finnegan. I know the basic stats of my life. Birthdate, who my parents are, etc... but beyond that I'm as much in the dark as you are. See, I just graduated. I've got my master's, I just don't know what the hell to do with it. I'm broke, jobless, highly educated, and going nowhere.

After months of pimping myself out via resume, I'm moving home. With my parents. At 24. This is not where I saw myself when I began school. This is not where I saw myself....ever.

When I went to Shenanigan's Bar, I never expected Jason or the people he brought into my life. I never expected any of this. I'm not sure if I'm ready to know who I am, but I don't think life is going to wait for me to catch up. Reality hits you hard, bro. I'm just glad I can take a hit.

Excerpt!!

“Seems your mood improved since the last time you were here.” Holy hell that voice: deep, sexy, I’m-probably-amazing-at-phone-sex voice and I froze.

I don’t even think I breathed. Goddammit! I yelled at myself, would it have killed you to at least wash your face today Mari?! How about putting on a damn bra?! I blew out a breath and looked up at him.

“Hello, Bartender” I murmured. Damn he was hot. How had I not noticed this before? I mean, yeah, his hands were sexy. All long fingered and capable, but how in the world could I have not seen his beautiful face.

Bright green eyes stared at me, crinkled in amusement so I could see those damn adorable laugh lines, under black eyebrows. His black hair was a little on the longish side, but styled so it didn’t make him look like a bum. He was tall, at least a couple inches over six feet, and broad shouldered. Currently he was leaning against the wall with his much admired hands tucked into his front pockets smirking at me. I stared as he unleashed his model pose on me. Would wonders never cease? I was never going outside again looking like this.

“Hello, Crazy Customer.” I amused him, I could tell. I’m not crazy, jerk wad. I’m having a crisis. Where the hell was my stupid license? “I didn’t think I’d see you again.” He continued and I could literally feel texting waitress glaring at me.

“Yes I’m sure that kept you awake at night. Where or where did that psychotic, over-sharer go?” I mumbled. I swear if I didn’t find- “Hey!” I yelled as he grabbed the bin of identities away from me. “Give that back, turd!”

He froze for a second, completely not expecting me to yell or call him a turd I guess. Then he burst out laughing. Laughing so hard he bent forward grabbing his stomach and tipping over the bin with all my preciouses falling on the floor. I felt a little like Gollum in that moment.

“Ugh now look what you did, this is going to take forever!” I crossed my arms petulantly. I knew that I was living up to my given moniker by him, but I couldn’t help it, he brought this out of me. He wiped his eyes and sucked in a deep breath.

“You’re not going to find your license in there.” He said when he caught his breath.

“Oh really? And why is that?” I glared. One side of his mouth kicked up and he reached into his back pocket, pulling out his wallet. My eyes widened and I sucked in a breath. “It’s in your wallet?”

“Yep.” He smiled as he pulled it out and showed me.

“Why?”

“Because I wanted to make sure that I was the one to give it to you?” He smiled again, this time a little bit of a blush tinged his cheeks. Goddammit, he was adorable.

“Are you for real?” I was shocked.

I mean hello, look at me, and I don’t mean just physically, I mean in every aspect of my life I was a mess. He just laughed again and nodded.

“Listen I don’t know what you are expecting, but as you have correctly ascertained, I am a bit crazy right now and while I’m sure that this is probably the most flattering thing to ever happen to me and you’re probably crazy for doing it, I really don’t want anything else complicating my life right now.” I looked over at the waitress chick that was looking at me like she would like nothing more than to kick my ass. I turned back to Bartender who was looking at me a little shocked. “Sorry.” I mumbled.

I felt horrible: one because he looked like I grew another head and two because he hasn’t confirmed or denied what I said. Way to jump to conclusions, Mari, you can go die now. “I’ll just go.” And practically ran out of the car. Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit I chanted as I frantically searched for my keys.

I had just unlocked my car when I heard him yell my name. I froze, my heart beating out of my chest. I glared up at the sky, expressing my displeasure with the game the Big Guy was playing with my life and turned around.

“Marisol! Wait up!” He called jogging up to me, coming to a stop really close to me. Backing up a little, I bumped into my car.

“Listen, I’m sorry I jumped to conclusions. Can I just get my license and go die somewhere alone?” I said miserably, avoiding eye contact.

“Stop for a second. I wasn’t trying to ask you out.” And then he laughed and I swear I died a thousand deaths. Of course Marisol, of course he wasn’t asking you out, I mean look at him!

“Whoa wait, I can actually read that thought process on your face. That’s not it at all, I mean you’re very, you know, you’re-“ He stuttered at me. I held up a hand to stop the pity compliment.

“What do you want, Bartender?” I barked, staring him down now. Anger does wonders for nerves.

“My name’s Jason.” He practically growled at me. A stupid, sexy, frustrated growl that made my lower half tighten. I sigh and waved a hand, telling him to continue.

“I know this is going to be sound weird and presumptuous, but my sister needs someone to help out with my nephew during the week. She has to start traveling for her job and his dad’s out of the picture. I would help, but I work full time and even though I help out while I can, it’s not enough. I can’t be there all the time.”

“I’m a complete stranger, what kind of uncle wants a complete, admittedly crazy, stranger watching their nephew?!” I asked incredulously.

“I know this is unorthodox, but you said yourself you don’t have a job and I just thought that maybe you’d like some money while you’re figuring things out. Besides, you don’t look like an insane baby snatcher or whatever. Also, you would meet with her first and have a bit on an interview first so don’t think I just ask anyone. And…” He stops for a second and his throat works as if he’s embarrassed about what he’s about to say. I cock my head to the side, curious now. “…if I’m being honest, there is something about you. Call it what you want, but I know you’re a good person.”

I stared at him. Was he for real? Before I could say anything he continued, “You don’t have to answer me now, I wrote my number on a post-it note and if you’re serious give me a call and I’ll put you in touch with my sister.” He held out my license with a post-it note on it.

I took it and stared at him dumbly. I seriously could not believe this. He looked at me a moment longer and then patted my shoulder. Literally gave me a “good job champ” pat on the shoulder and with a wave and an “I’ll see yeah later!” Jason trotted back to the bar. I got in my car and just stared at his number. I closed my eyes and banged my head on the steering wheel.

How embarrassing.

Hello all!

So I finally made the move from Goodreads to GL and imported all the reviews I had there to here. Please forgive any wonkiness! If you want to see the original then head over to the main blog at pagetrotter.blogspot.com!!

If I end up liking this A LOT (which might be in the case since I've just messed around on here for a while) I might make this my primary platform! Woooohoooo!

Anyways! Hello! Spread the word that I finally got with the times!

XO!

Ruby Hill - Sarah Ballance Ok so first thing's first. This is a short story, I believe 54pgs, and VERY fast paced. I have a love hate relationship with short stories. I feel like it's very hard to give the right and necessary amount of information without 1) spending the majority of the story setting the stage and 2) leaving way too many holes in the story. The author did a good job teasing the information, so much so that I would have loved a longer story. I love ghost hunting/paranormal books. Love them. I would have liked this one to be a little more scary, but the author does well with imagery that it had be flipping pages very quickly.

We have Ruby Hill, an abandoned insane asylum. Has there been a greater location for a story? Nope! There have been three deaths since Ruby Hill closed it's doors. All the victims have died similar deaths raising suspicion. Enter Corbin. He is the brother of the most recent victim and a cop. Now we have Ashley, former girlfriend of Corbin, friend of Cash (Corbin's brother), and resident ghost hunter. They come together for one night and what they discover is spooooky! It's a quick, fun, October read! *ARC received in exchange for honest review!*

Friends Without Benefits: An Unrequited Romance (Knitting in the City, #2)

From pagetrotter.blogspot.com

(fair warning: I've had a lot of coffee so I'll try to make this as coherent as possible :/)

Ok so let me begin by saying that Penny has nerd-ed her way up into my Top Contemporary Romance Writers List. The capital letters are to let you know that I mean business and that this is a real list...that's in my head but still. Deserves capital letters. Kelsie! Kelsie! What does it take to be on that list?! First, simmer down, I will tell you. You MUST have the ability to warp my reality. What I mean by that is basically you have to write amazing fictional characters that generally ruin actual people for me. Penny (I'm speaking directly to Penny right now) you have created a world so vivid and filled with amazing characters that you have done this for me. Well done, you!

In all seriousness, Friends Without Benefits was so much more than what I was expecting. Now before you get your knickers in a knot, knowing that Penny wrote the book, I was expecting a fun/light rom-com with funny characters and some smexiness. Sounds pretty great right? What I got was all of that, but with so much more depth. Now don't worry, it's not so deep that we drown in angst. It's perfectly balanced because...wait for it....Nico Manjellomiello (I can't pronounce his name either ;). People. Nico. Niiiiico. Niccolo. Let me just tell you something about Nico: he is literally one of the sweetest, hottest guys I've ever read about. He is hilarious and sexy and SPEAKS ITALIAN. Y'all need to put on your fire proof panties while reading this because this sexy Italian stallion will quite literally set them on fire.

Now this brings us to our lovely Elizabeth/Lizzybella/Skinny Finney. I have no idea how Penny is able to write a completely different character from Janie in Neanderthal Seeks Human and STILL I am able to see so much of myself in her that it makes me wonder if I have a bit of a Sybil issue, but she does. She writes the every woman and girl nails it. I'm warning you right now, Elizabeth will most likely drive you nuts. She's a little looney and incredibly stubborn, but what I like about her is that she is realistic. She gets scared and she makes mistakes. I think it's the flaws in a character that allow a reader to relate so well to them and that my fellow Trotters is the difference between fluff and substance. And Penny Reid has substance in spades.

As for the secondary characters. It is established that I love the knitting club. I lurve them. They are my fictional besties and I am so frickin happy that they are getting their own books. Can I get a yeehaw?!....too Southern? Ok, no more yeehaws. Noted. Can I get a woot woot?! There we go! So yes, the friends. Love them. Also, lets give a hand to the break out stars that make up Nico's gigantic family. I'm Irish/Italian so I felt like Penny did a very good job of capturing the chaos. And it is chaos. His mother, Rose? Yes. Dead on. My mother has been trying to marry me off since I was legal so I can sympathize. Quick warning: there is Italian spoken in this book (I know right? So hot) but it doesn't get translated very often (if at all) so you'll be looking that stuff up. Especially during a certain...ahem...spicy scene. Wink.

In short, I loved it. I love this series. I have an author crush on Penny Reid. Gah, I really don't wanna flaunt that fact that I received an ARC but WOOHOOOOO I GOT AN ARC AND IT WAS AWESOME AND I LOVE PENNY REID'S BOOKS!!!! EEEEEEP! Ok. That was uncalled for. I'm sorry. So would I recommend this? I feel like asking/answering this question is redundant but I have a routine...so yes! I would totally recommend this book! This is book 2 in the series, but you can totally read them as standalones (that sounds so sad. That word. Standalones. You can totally read them as loners? recluses? friendless losers? Huh. I guess standalones is the best option for a name, but I digress....) since it doesn't come out for another few weeks why don't you read book 1 in the series while you wait?

Only Between Us

Only Between Us - Mila Ferrera From http://pagetrotter.blogspot.com

Awwww, man! This book broke my heart. Caleb is such a beautiful person inside and out. I really felt for him and understood his struggle between Romy and the other side of his life. My God, what a position to be in. And if his mother was a real person I would slap the SHIT out of her. His older sister is a brat for most of the book, but when she learns the ugly truth she turns around so I forgive her for making my Caleb's life harder.

I love Romy. She's damaged too and working on getting her life back. She gains more control of her life by being there for Caleb and letting Caleb be there for her. There are a lot of social issues in this book, a lot of trauma to our characters, but this is literally the best representation of the effects of abuse and the healing afterwards I've ever read. It's so true. The frustration with the victim is something that is usually overlooked. Most authors haven't delved into what happens to the people who love and care for the victim. In some ways they can hurt as bad, but in different ways. Caleb's case is a perfect example.

This is a beautifully well written story. Did I cry? Well, yes, this book touched me. Caleb touched me. I've never wanted to hug and protect a character this much before. Gah, I just love him. The subject matter can be tough to read, but it is so well done. So would I recommend this? Definitely. I'm totally a fan of this author now. Absolutely fantastic!

Giveaway Aug 29th - 31st!

Oh man, this was such a sweet book for no other reason than Fox. He is the sweetest most perfect boy in the world. I'm pretty sure every single teenager in the world has dreamed about him. He's also perfect for Saige. Saige is...rough around the edges. She walks around with pain like it's her toxic best friend that she is only still friends with because they've known each other for so long. She doesn't know how to shake it and she's not sure if she wants to. There's comfortability in it because it's predictable. One thing that's not predictable is our boy Fox.

My favorite scene? Well let's just say it involves a drawing with some dialogue boxes. It was so sweet and I wanted to cry and hug them both and kiss Fox and all kind of hearts and flower nonsense.

I'm warning y'all right now, you are going to fall in love with him and this can sometimes color your feelings for Saige. We want to smack her for being mean to our boy. There are a lot of issues that both characters work through in this book and I think the author handles it in a very honest, realistic way. You really feel these characters and you feel for them too. I really connected with their story and came to care about them.

Would I recommend this book? Yes, definitely. I really liked the story, characters, and writing style. I'll be keeping my eye out for more by this author. *ARC received in exchange for honest review*

Unteachable

Unteachable - Leah Raeder from http://pagetrotter.blogspot.com/2013/08/blog-tour-stop-unteachable.html
Blog Tour stop and excerpt available!!!

This book. Holy freaking HELL. First, I would like to give a standing O to Leah for having the lady balls to write this book. My favorite thing about it? The honesty. There are so many teacher/student books out there right now where the two characters are just so tormented by their forbidden love. So. Tormented. Excuse me, Romeo and Juliet, let’s be honest here. We’re all adults (or almost adults in this case) so why is it soooo hard to admit the truth that part of the attraction stems from the fact that it is, in fact, forbidden.

I do not buy, for one second, that the fact that he/she is older and a teacher (and vice versa he/she is younger and your student) does nothing to “rev your engine.” Readers are not stupid. So Leah? Ya, girl, you are kick ass for having both parties admit that part of what makes it so hot is the fact that it’s forbidden.

*Stepping down from soap box*

Moving on LOL. I have no idea why and maybe I am so far off base here, but the writing reminds me of Ray Bradbury (specifically Something Wicked…) and Salinger’s, Catcher and the Rye. Add some American Graffiti, Garden State, Perks of Being a Wallflower (the book), everything by John Hughes and literally every coming of age with some raw emotion and quirk and you’ve got this. The feel of it, the sound of it, the tone of the characters, the unbelievably raw emotion and fucked-upness just reminds me of these novels and movies. It just reads like a coming of age classic. This writer doesn’t write words, she writes prose. It’s so fucking beautiful, I’m lime green with envy.

Can we take a moment here and talk about Maise? Oh man, do I love this girl. She is a mess and I mean a huge, messy, mess. Want to know why I love her? She knows it. She realizes this about herself. She is the most aware character I’ve ever read about and at the same time as so much room to grow and learn about the world and herself that she’s literally brimming with potential, pain, and promise. (Liking the p’s). She steals the show whole-heartedly. She is one of my favorite characters of all time, hands the fudge down. She had me cracking up and near tears. I went through every emotion with her and empathized.

Evan is perfect for her in this story. He’s not only her academic teacher (warning: cheesiest of cheese up ahead) he teaches her about life. He teaches Maise to recognize her own worth. In fact, they teach each other. The age difference (12 yrs) was a little hard at first; I’ll be honest. But Maise’s frankness about it, as well as their connection with each other made it ok. I mean for gods sake, she references Lolita several times.

I literally could go on for days. This book blew me out of the water. I was really expecting something else and was surprised. It surpassed every expectation and it set the bar for all other New Adult novels. Jesus, woman, you are a force of nature. You just challenged an entire genre. I am telling y’all right now, read this book. If you’ve never read New Adult before, please start with this book. Take a chance, keep an open mind, and go with it. I cannot recommend this enough. *ARC received in exchange for an honest review!!*
Switch - Janelle Stalder 3.5 Stars
from pagetrotter.blogspot.com

The story shoots off into action very quickly, like lightening fast. I love dystopian and felt like this was very much in line and true to dystopian. I will say that in the beginning I thought it was for a YA audience, but then the adult side of things came to light. I will say that because the pacing is super fast, some things can lose you and some things don't go in to as much detail as I would've liked. These types of stories require a ridiculous amount of world building and I would have liked to know more of the back story there. That being said, it is a series so maybe more will be revealed as time in the series passes.

The main characters are great! I loved Charlotte/Dinah. She's kickass and strong and everything I love about dystopian females. Pete is hot and perfect for her. The romance is a huge portion of the this book, so die hard dystopian lovers need to keep this in mind. The other characters add an interesting and entertaining flavor.

This is book 1 of the series and she starts off strong. So buckle up, chickens, Janelle Stalder is going to hit the ground running with you. Recommended if you like romance and dystopian. I will be reading the second novel and will be checking out the other series by this author in the future.
Deeper We Fall - Chelsea M. Cameron From pagetrotter.blogspot.com

I really liked this one. I may have liked Zan more than Lottie to be honest. I also felt that the blurb is a teensy weensy bit misleading. I was honestly expecting Zach to be constantly reminding/blaming Lottie of the accident and shoving her face in it actively when in reality it was just his presence that sparked memories she'd rather not deal with. Other than that I think all the relationships in this book we fantastic. I came to love everyone in their little family. I would like to see more of Lottie's roommate which I believe we will in book 2? I think their friendship progressed rather quickly all things considered.

I thought the development of Lexi's character was an interesting twist and I totally felt for her friends and family. I loved the relationship Lottie has with her brother Will and their best friend, Simon. It's very close nit and supportive. I love when the main characters have strong friendships and familial ties.

This whole book was about overcoming pain and guilt. Many of the characters learned to forgive themselves and I felt like the way they do this was very true and progressed naturally. Even though we LOVE Zan, Lottie struggles with her feelings for him. Her reasons makes sense and unfortunately she doesn't get the Zan POV chapters that we do.

And poor Zan, he's just an idiot over her. He's crushing on her so hard he doesn't even know how to speak to her and make her listen. I really wish we got more insight as to what he went through that past year. I would have liked to see his struggle with himself and his feelings for Zach more. I just really connected with him and felt for him, more than anyone else in the book. Weird how that happens lol!

Would I recommend this? Definitely, but be warned, it can be tears inducing for some. Looking forward to more from Chelsea Cameron!! *ARC received in exchange for an honest review!*

Fear of Falling

Fear of Falling - S.L. Jennings 3.5 Stars
from pagetrotter.blogspot.com

Ok, wow. This was some heavy shit. Kami is a victim of all kinds of abuse from a very early age. She is consumed by fear and is barely holding on. If it wasn't for her best friends Dom and Angel she would have let go a long time ago. They are a very close trio, especially Dom and Kami. They associate love and affection with abuse, but they are slowly teaching each other that you can love someone without cruelty. Their relationship is beautiful and if I'm honest I wanted to see waaaay more of it in the book. I say this because considering how influential and present they are in her life, it would make sense for them to be a stronger presence in the book. I'm always fascinated by very close M/F friendships like this (ie- Bianca and Stephan a la the Up in the Air series - amazeballs btw).

What can I say about Blaine? You, sir, deserve a plaque or a medal or something because you are one brave sonofabitch. You took on Kami and you fought and fought and fought. Even when she spat at you in the face, you still only showed her love and affection. He's a beautiful man in more ways than his physical appearance.

Ok so why the 3.5? I'm sure the author struggled with how much time in the book she should dedicate to Kami's abuse and dealing with it. I actually would have liked to see her healing process a little more. I think we get one therapy session? I think. Anyways, as we begin to care for Kami we want her to be better, to be able to love and let love in and then the shit that goes down in the last half of the book is pretty devastating. She "kind of" takes it in stride and while the author knows her characters best, I was kind of shocked by this because considering everything that happened within the time frame of the book I would have thought it would have had a bit more affect (effect? argh grammar). She was pretty vulnerable because of her feels for Blaine, she had opened herself up a bit and then BOOM. I don't know, I would have liked to see the healing process there. I also felt maybe the relationship with Blaine, while very hot, could have been a little more developed. It was a little insta-love. Maybe that's not how it's meant, but that's how I saw it and y'all should know how I feel about it by now :/

All in all this is a fantastic book. I wanted a bit more from the characters and their character development. The author handles the subject of abuse very delicately so I definitely commend her for that. I hope she plans on writing Dom's story because I reallllllyyyyyy want it. Would I recommend this? Yes, so long as you have a stomach for the abuse. The author put a warning in her blurb so please read that first. This isn't a lovey dovey romance even though Blaine is pretty swoonworthy. Happy reading!!
